The purpose of this site is to share my pottery creations with family and friends – and with others who similarly find inspiration and amusement in the animal world. And yes, if you like what you see, I do commissions and regularly sell off work when I run out of space!

About Zandra

I started working with clay at school, and I’ve continued learning throughout my travels. My studio is now based in a 10^th-century château in a small village in the Jura Mountains*, where I’m inspired by the birds and animals that surround me…as well as those further afield. Nature is full of humour. Exaggerated shapes and personalities make me smile.

I use black, white or red clay for my nature-inspired pieces. The smaller ones are often hollowed out of solid blocks of clay and then shaped according to whim. Larger pieces are first rolled out in slabs before being modelled to suit. They are then ‘biscuit’ fired in my electric kiln, glazed (or not), before being fired again. Most live with us for a while, indoors or outside, before leaving for good homes.

The show went brilliantly and am still on a complete high. Got lots of compliments, made lots of sales, some commissions, maybe other shows…oh it’s all tooo thrilling. Fame and fortune beckon?? I could have sold my horse and penguin many times over.

the smart little green number...

Looked at the guest list for the vernissage (opening night on 12 April) and decide I have nothing smart enough to wear. A panicked dash to the shops yielded a little greenish number. Hope I still like it on Thursday.

Right…I’ve selected pieces to take up to Paris, listed them, priced them and am now busy packing them up. This is the boring bit. Hope and pray ears and noses don’t fall off in transit.

Paris Show in April

Busy preparing new pieces for my Paris show on 12-14 April. Just loaded up the kiln and, in doing so, broke a toe off my new badger. Aargh, shouldn’t have rushed it. Will have to glue it back once fired.
