The purpose of this site is to share my pottery creations with family and friends – and with others who similarly find inspiration and amusement in the animal world. And yes, if you like what you see, I do commissions and regularly sell off work when I run out of space!

About Zandra

I started working with clay at school, and I’ve continued learning throughout my travels. My studio is now based in a 10^th-century château in a small village in the Jura Mountains*, where I’m inspired by the birds and animals that surround me…as well as those further afield. Nature is full of humour. Exaggerated shapes and personalities make me smile.

I use black, white or red clay for my nature-inspired pieces. The smaller ones are often hollowed out of solid blocks of clay and then shaped according to whim. Larger pieces are first rolled out in slabs before being modelled to suit. They are then ‘biscuit’ fired in my electric kiln, glazed (or not), before being fired again. Most live with us for a while, indoors or outside, before leaving for good homes.

I’ve just emailed my website URL to a list of unsuspecting friends, family and aquaintances, causing my laptop to semi-crash and prompting an immediate response from my friend Alain complaining that the duck he bought isn’t featured….

It has been raining for days, months… This morning, it snowed up where I live: a white-out. We are almost in May and I can’t get to my kiln and my hands are freezing and inspiration has fled the coop. Um. Glum. Here’s a photo of my grand-daughters last summer.
